 Development & implementation

 of management systems

With many years of working with systems to meet the requirements of the ISM Code, the Port Marine Safety Code and the quality management system standard (ISO 9001:2000), SMSL is well placed to assist Clients in establishing and implementing such systems.

It is our belief that the documentary / administrative aspects of such systems should be as streamlined as possible – we undertake to help Clients minimise these aspects thus allowing valuable resources to be efficiently targeted.

Our experience in developing management systems extends to developing and conducting risk assessments. The outputs of these risk assessments may be used to inform the management system by identifying the extent and type of controls that are required.

Typically, our risk management systems include assessment and risk control in the areas of health and safety, the environment, property and an organisation’s business. The bespoke nature of our risk management systems makes them eminently suitable to aid accident and incident investigation. This is achieved by determining root cause and contributory factors so as to identify actions required to prevent recurrence.

Management system audits are regularly undertaken by SMSL on behalf of Clients to meet their audit schedules, to prepare for inspection by a third party, or to provide an independent and impartial view of the effectiveness of their documented management system. Audits of the shore operation and / or vessel based activities can be conducted on a system, or process based approach. We would be pleased to discuss with Clients their audit requirements and the most relevant methodology to achieve maximum benefit from our service.
